During the 2008 Calendar Year ICO received fifteen project requests from Social Services and, one from the Town of Kill Devil Hills, for a total of sixteen projects.
Following is the disposition of these projects:
8 projects were completed by ICO during calendar year 2008
4 projects (late year) have been assessed and work will be completed in Jan. 2009
1 project is on hold pending assessment by EIC in the Frisco location
1 project was declined by the homeowner following the assessment
1 project is on hold pending contact from DSS (Homeowner reluctance issue)
1 project remained incomplete at year end due to lack of assistance by resident
During the year Home Rehab established a strong working relationship with The Home Depot store in Kitty Hawk by joining their Gifts in Kind Program.
This program allows ICO to receive building materials that are being inventoried out of Home Depot at no expense to ICO. During the last six months of 2008 ICO took nearly twenty receipts of materials from Home Depot as part of this program. These materials have been used in Home Rehab projects and in the United Methodist Church support program for Hurricane Katrina flood victims in Mississippi and Louisiana.
Happy Boxes Storage Co. provided space to ICO for storage of these materials. This space was provided for six months free of charge and at 50% of the normal rental rate on-going. A second storage location in Currituck was obtained by John McColley later in the year to store larger items like 16' Trex Decking planks donated by Home Depot.
Of the sixteen projects referred to ICO this year thirteen were for addresses in either Manteo/Wanchese or Kill Devil Hills. To better serve our clients Home Rehab is structuring volunteer support along a North and South beach strategy localizing the support for the majority of our projects.
It is expected that the number of requests in 2009 will escalate due to the current economic situation in the region and the U.S. in general. Home Rehab will focus on further developing our volunteer base to support this need and on reducing the time from application to work completion on all projects in 2009.
